3 Ways To Clear Up Acne-Prone Skin

Whether you’re a teenager experiencing acne for the first time or an adult who’s had skin issues for as long as you can remember, it can be a real challenge trying to deal with acne-prone skin. Because pimples can crop up on your skin for many reasons, it’s often hard to know how to deal with these issues and what you can do to best prevent them in the future as well.

To help you with this, here are three ways you can clear up your acne-prone skin.

Know The Best Products To Use

One of the best things you can do for your skin is to wash and clean it regularly. But when you have acne-prone skin, it’s extra important that you know what products to use and how to use them.

According to Dr. Debra Jaliman, a contributor to WebMD.com, the best skin cleansers for people with acne-prone skin are ones that contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. These ingredients can help to clear up your acne and the sores they cause, which can help your skin become healthier. Additionally, when you’re cleansing your face with these products, be sure that you’re not being too rough or picking at your skin, as this can cause more irritation.

As for moisturizers, it’s best to use something that’s non-comedogenic, which means that it won’t clog your pores. You can also look for products that are oil-free or anti-bacterial to help prevent future breakouts.

Take A Look At Your Diet

It’s not only what you put on your face that can cause acne, but everything that you put into your body can have an impact on your skin as well. Because of this, it’s vital that you have a healthy diet if you want to have healthy, clear skin.

Christa Joanna Lee, Loni Venti, Maryann Barone, and Marissa Desantis, contributors to Teen Vogue, share that eating foods that spike insulin in your body can cause inflammation and result in your acne to flare up. To combat this, make sure you’re eating plenty of leafy, green vegetables and brightly-colored fruits so you can get as many vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants as possible.

Give Your Treatment Enough Time To Work

When it seems like nothing you’re doing for your skin seems to be helping, it can be tempted to just throw everything at your skin to see what sticks. However, if you really want to see results, the American Academy of Dermatology shares that you need to give your treatments about four weeks to see any results. So rather than trying something new every few days, try to stick to one form of treatment for at least a month before giving up on it.

If you have acne-prone skin, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you find some relief.
