Simple And Useful Travel Photography Tips From Wayne Imber

When it comes to travel, the one thing that is common among most people is the desire to take as many pictures as possible. This is completely understandable since technology is much more advanced than it ever was. However, it does not mean that you can simply take a good camera and shoot great travel photographs. If you really want to shoot the best pics, Wayne Imber makes some recommendations. At the same time, remember that the more you learn, the better your pictures will become.

Always Travel Light

While travel photography is exciting and inspirational, many end up carried away during their preparation. People are tempted to take all the devices they have in order to look for a perfect picture. Some even want to rent some extra equipment.

The truth is that you just need to travel light. Only take one camera with you, some memory cards, a mini tripod, a pocket-sized compact, some lenses, a very good camera bag, a flash unit and maybe a portable storage unit.

You Need The Right Lens

As you are traveling, you get the opportunity to experience many different photography genres. You can easily explore but the really important decision to take is what lens you are going to use. When the budget allows it, you can buy many. However, most people cannot afford to make such pricey purchases. If your budget is limited, fast zoom lenses like 28-300m or 18-200mm are better.

Focal points might be found really far away from you but in other cases they can be right close to you. Variable focal length is thus really useful and should start with healthy wide angles in travel photography.

Choose The Right Shooting Mode

You get a really high flexibility when you use JPEG Fine or RAW modes. However, this does mean you will need to have many high capacity cards with you to deal with storage issues. If you are interested in travel photography you have to develop a habit of downloading all images to a photo storage device or to a laptop. This should be done every night. There is nothing worse in travel photography than finding a perfect picture and not being able to shoot it as you do not have space. By the time you choose what images to delete from your camera, the moment might have already passed.

Scout Locations First

Speaking of preparation, a big mistake is not scouting a location before you go and take photographs. For most people, it is hard to find inspiration about what to shoot. This is why you may want to start with the local tourist information center. Talk with the staff there to get some recommendations.

After you are given the recommendations, visit them. See if they are suitable for your style of travel photography. This allows you to decide and even have the right equipment with you when you go back. Remember that you have to travel light but you also need the right devices. Scouting helps you to do just that.
