I Got Injured On The Job And Now I Can’t Work: What Next?

The last thing any employee hopes for is to get hurt on the job. Not only can it stop you from being able to work altogether, but it can affect many other areas of your life as well. Finding yourself without the ability to work and make a living is incredibly distressing – particularly if you have a family to look after.

Whether your injury was no one’s fault or a result of someone else’s negligence, you still have rights. If you got hurt on the job and are no longer able to work as a result, then take a look at what steps you need to follow next.

File a Report

The first thing you should do is notify your supervisor and file a report. It’s essential for an injury claim to have a paper trail. Failing to notify someone about it means that there’s no proof that the injury happened at all.

The last thing you want is to find yourself with injuries which leave you unable to work only to have people doubt the validity of your claims. Therefore, make sure that you notify appropriate people immediately following getting hurt.

See a Doctor

Is essential that a medical professional sees your injuries. They’ll be able to determine whether you require surgery or long-term treatment. Make sure that you have a record of your visit with them so that you can add this to your claim file.

Again, failing to do so could take away from the validity of your claim. Not to mention that your injuries could worsen if they aren’t properly treated immediately.

File for Workers Compensation

Worker’s compensation laws vary depending on what state you’re in. If your application for worker’s compensation is accepted, you have the right for your medical costs and lost wages to be covered.

If your employer hassles you in any way for applying for this compensation, then you may have to go to court.

Consider Hiring a Lawyer

You might want to consider hiring a lawyer if your employer is claiming that you are not eligible for workers compensation. An experienced workers compensation attorney will be able to guide you through the complicated ins and outs of workers comp laws and answer any questions that you might have.

When you’re completely incapacitated to the point you can’t work, then you need the best possible lawyer on your side.

Rest

Chances are that you’re probably eager to get back to work and start making money again. However, you can make your injuries even worse by rushing in anything. It’s critical that you let your body rest and completely heal before pushing yourself back to work.
