We all live in a community. To most, it is made-up of neighbours, living on streets around the neighbourhood, but to some, it is determined by a wall, where everyone’s houses are gathered together, for more protection. In such cases, communicating between each other, and as a group, is a necessity for the community to grow happily. Here are two communication means that should be used, to facilitate the process.
Print a Newspaper
There is nothing better to create the sense of community than to have a newspaper that joins us together. It can be a daily edition, printed weekly or even monthly. It doesn’t really matter, just as long as the newspaper print is about what is going on inside the community and around. It can literally be used the same way as a national paper. You can insert news about things that happened during the previous day, a sports section as well as an entertainment one. Anything that can possibly take place inside the walls of the community, or around them, and that could be of global interest to all.
It is also a great way to bring in some revenues for the upkeeping of the grounds. Depending on the number of people living inside the community, advertising can be sold to markets, shops and restaurants around the area, inside the newspaper. It will benefit both the businesses and the people living in the community. Furthermore, it is a great way to communicate rules and changes made to them. If there are elections to be held, all potential representatives may write about what they intend to do. There is no other communication tool better than a newspaper inside a community, as it enables all to find the information easily, and on the grounds.
Create a Newsletter
This should come in as an addition to the newspaper print – not as another option. The reason is that you don’t want to overuse a newsletter. When you offer a printed newspaper to the people residing on the grounds, it gives them the opportunity to discover what is going on, if they decide to do so. It is not intrusive, as they are the one choosing to read. The newsletter can rapidly turn into something negative, if sent too often. It becomes a pollutant inside e-mail boxes, that will irritate some, to the extent that they will ask to be removed from the mailing list.
However, if used sparsely, whenever there is a necessity to do so, there is no doubt that the newsletter is the best communication tool to convey important information. To make sure that everyone does receive it and takes it into account, the e-mail list must be cleaned regularly. If some addresses don’t work anymore, they will need to be changed to ones that do. The newsletter being used for official information, it has to reach all individuals living inside the community. However, just to be on the safe side, one copy should be printed and placed inside the office and at other public locations, where people pass by often.
