Whether you’ve undergone surgery at some point or another or has some type of accident that left you with some injuries, most people have at least one scar on their body. In some instances, a scar won’t seem like a big deal to you. But if it’s in a very noticeable place on your body or is particularly unsightly in your opinion, you might be wanting to find some way that you can camouflage or minimize your scar in some way. Keep Your Wound Clean While Healing
If you’ve just gotten this wound that you think might cause a scar eventually, the best thing you can do is take care of that wound while it’s healing. The better you’re able to care for that area of your body and help it heal quickly and safely, the less the chances are that you’ll have a big or obvious scar. To help with this, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends that you keep your would as clean as you can while it’s healing. As part of this, make sure you’re washing the area to keep it free of germs, you’re replacing your bandages daily, and that you’re keeping the wound moist with petroleum jelly or other necessary creams.
Try Topical Treatments
As was mentioned above, there are some great creams and topical treatments available that can help a new wound heal as well as help old scars improve their appearance. According to Dr. Stephanie S. Gardner, a contributor to WedMD.com, the best topical creams that you can get over-the-counter for healing scars include products with vitamin E and cocoa butter in them. You can also find products that are more in the line of beauty products that could also help reduce the appearance of your scars.
Opt For More Natural Remedies
In addition to the topical creams and ointments that you can buy at the store to help with your scarring, there are also some more natural remedies that you might be interested in trying. According to Cynthia Cobb, a contributor to Healthline.com, some natural products that you might want to look into for alleviating scarring include honey, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, lemon, olive oil, and potatoes. Each of these natural remedies requires a little different treatment and application, so make sure you do your research before trying any of these out on your scars.
