A blog article was published a fortnight ago by the Mukilteo Herald here in Seattle about the damage which the erosion of the community is having on the country. This article hit me pretty hard actually as for many years I have always tried to give back to the community and I have witnessed this erosion with my own eyes. Thankfully here in Mukilteo we are doing something about it and people like Peter Zieve are leading the way. Peter is a successful businessman from Seattle and his company Electroimpact is highly successful. For many years now Peter has used his power for good and many of the profits from his business are donated towards a program in the community based around sports. If you are concerned by the lack of community that you have in your local area then you can take action.
If you have certain skills the you can use them in the community to help others. Many communities have boxing gyms and music classes which they can use to help the kids get off the streets and learn something about themselves. Even if you don’t have particular skills but you want to help, you can volunteer in these places and they will certainly find something for you to do. The most important decision is not what you can do, but whether or not you want to do something.
I have often used this bag to criticize politics and try to drum up support for more contributions in the community and if you feel passionately about your local community then you can do something similar and try to drum up support for more people to take action in their local communities. The more voices that we have, the more likely we are to be heard and a campaign for more work in the community can eventually be launched by people who care.
You may think that you don’t have the time to give up to support the community, perhaps you are trying your best to support your own family. If this is the case then think about what you amy be able to give towards the community if not your time. You could sell items to support projects, you could give a job to a member of the community in need. There are all kinds of ways that you can give if you so wish and if you are able to find it in your heart to give just a little then it can make a big difference.
In many communities around the country we are letting our own people down, we have kids committing crimes, elderly people dying alone and people who struggle to get jobs, we have to rally together and bring back what it truly means to be a part of a community, and that change starts with each of us.
