Danny Boice has been a private investigator for many years now and in the last 5 years both he and his partner Jennifer Mellon have been working with industry leader Trustify. This is a cost-efficient and highly successful private investigation company which seeks to provide its clients with the very best in the business, hence why Danny Boice and Jennifer Mellon decided to work there. We caught up with Danny a couple of weeks ago to speak with him more about what kind of tasks and responsibilities a private investigator has, let’s review.
Background Checks
One of the most common tasks which Danny will carry out is to perform background checks on people. In most cases he will be performing background checks on behalf of a company for a particular candidate who they are looking to hire. Businesses want to know if their potential recruit is actually who they say that they are and they will carry out a range of checks from criminal history, work history, educational history and any other specific information which is worthwhile. Occasionally a PI may also perform a background check on a suitor at the request of someone who wants to start a relationship with them, in order to make sure that they are who they say that they are.
Surveillance
Surveillance is a large part of the job and there are many instances in which a private investigator will need to keep eyes on someone for a length of time. In most cases these are fidelity cases whereby one partner suspects the other of being unfaithful and so pays a private investigator to track them and find out whether or not they are. In other cases private investigators may be hired by the courts to keep an eye on a key witness in a particular case.
Information
Another huge aspect of what a PI does involves the gathering of information, usually information which is not easily obtainable. Most PIs have a pretty tight infrastructure when it comes to how they obtain information and they will usually have access to places where others don’t, and contacts in many locations who can help them to gather the information that they need. This could be all manner of information and they are often hired by attorneys to find case-supportive information which has not yet been discovered.
Interviews
As part of the information gathering a private investigator may carry out interviews with key people in order to extract the information that they need. For example let’s say that someone is claiming for an accident which wasn’t their fault, witnesses will rarely come forward for this and so a PI will seek to find the witnesses and find to what they saw. Interviews aren’t a daily occurrence but they are something which forms a large part of the PIs work in general.
Do you think that you could one day become a private investigator like Danny Boice and Jennifer Mellon?
